Dr. Whitney Gwaltney, Dr. Steve Gwaltney, and Dr. J.Ryland Gwaltney provide sedation dentistry in their Suffolk, VA office. Dental sedation is a general dentistry treatment used to calm patients during routine or complex dental procedures. It especially benefits patients with dental fear or anxiety.
If you have had a previous negative experience at the dentist or have not visited the dentist in a long time, we have solutions that can enable you to enjoy improved dental health. Our office is a judge-free zone and our goal is to provide patients with the dental care they need.
Overcoming Dental Anxiety and Fear
We work with our patients to understand the cause of their dental fear or anxiety and help create new positive experiences in our office. Our dental team not only cares about patients’ oral health but their overall health. Even if you have been away from the dentist for a long time, we can help you rebuild your smile. We will create a treatment plan for you that addresses your concerns and forms long-lasting, healthy results.

Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is administered through a face mask or tube. When inhaled, nitrous oxide gas enters the bloodstream quickly, allowing patients to immediately feel relaxed. Nitrous oxide allows patients to remain awake during their treatment. However, they may not remember their procedure. Nitrous oxide also allows patients to feel no pain under our care. When we remove the mask or tube, patients will feel slightly disoriented or drowsy. However, these effects fade for the majority of patients.
